Event Description

With advances in genetic research, biotechnology, medical devices and general medicine; an unforeseen consequence has developed in which the demand for donated human tissue has amplified exponentially. Responding to this tremendous increase in demand, a new industry has formed, non-transplantable tissue banking; unfortunately this industry operates with little to no oversight or regulation. Due to the lack of regulation, no standard practices have been established and in many cases basic laws referring to mortuary sciences are not being followed. Minnesota has taken steps to become the first state to address these growing issues on a large scale. This event will focus on the ethical issues, existing state regulations, and proposed changes and the effects of changes on the industry.
