Leading Health Services Researcher to Deliver Morning Keynote Address at LifeScience Alley Conference & Expo

Paul H. Keckley, PhD, Executive Director of the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, will deliver the morning keynote address at the association’s 7th Annual Conference & Expo on December 10, 2008. As Executive Director, Dr. Keckley has led proprietary research and trend analysis focused on finding innovative solutions within the US healthcare system. His keynote will address current perspectives on the 20-year outlook for the global bioscience industry. He will highlight the process and scope of the ongoing collaborative project between Deloitte Consulting LLP and The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota’s™ Destination 2025 project and how it will assist leaders in Minnesota in developing a long-term competitive position in the biosciences.

Dr. Keckley has amassed extensive experience in the design and implementation of evidence-based medical practice standards, clinical information technology, and data management during his tenure with Vanderbilt University and now Deloitte’s Center for Health Solutions. Under his leadership, the Center for Health Solutions, an independent research organization, focuses on research projects in trends in health care consumerism, pay for performance programs, closing the gap between evidence and practice in healthcare, information technology adoption, and models of community care that improve population-based health status while reducing costs. He has also been involved in international healthcare delivery joint ventures in the United Kingdom and Botswana.

According to Don Gerhardt, president and CEO of LifeScience Alley, "In order to build a framework for the future of the biosciences in healthcare, we have to rely on research focused on the big picture of healthcare delivery. Dr. Keckley has been doing exactly this kind of research throughout his career. The initiatives underway at Deloitte will help to crystallize the direction our healthcare system needs to take over the next 20 years."

Dr. Keckley received a Bachelor of Arts from Lipscomb University, a MA/PhD from Ohio State University, and completed a fellowship in economic policy at Oxford University. He is an active member of the Health Executive Network, Healthcare Strategy Institute, Healthcare Leadership Council, and Personalized Medicine Coalition, among others. His work has been featured in numerous journals and he has been profiled by ABC’s 20/20, CBS’s 60 Minutes, Fox News, CNN, and The Wall Street Journal.

The largest convocation of life science industry professionals in the Upper Midwest, LifeScience Alley’s annual conference attracts over 1,500 attendees from more than 25 states and 12 countries. The goal of the conference is to convene the life science industry under one umbrella to share new insights of emerging trends, technologies and practices. The conference & expo will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center in downtown Minneapolis on December 10, 2008, and will feature four general sessions, seven educational seminar tracks, a new technology showcase, a state legislative hearing, a graduate student poster session, and an exhibit hall featuring over 180 exhibitors.
